The Seniors Have Graduated

ND/BNF/07

ND/BNF/08

ND/BNF/09

ND/BNF/10

Congratulations to all my fellow seniors of ND/BNF/07, 08, 09 and 10 who have graduated this morning during the Technical/Vocational Convocation Event at the International Convention Centre, Berakas. They have already entered the workforce since their previous attachments, but some have also decided to continue their studies, particularly at the Brunei Institute of Technology (ITB) for the Higher-National Diploma courses.

The good old days together, circa 2005

It's been 7 months since they left the Business School for their industrial attachments. I've known them for over 2 years as their junior and being able to know them for that long has been the greatest senior-junior relationship experience. 2 years has been quite a long time.

To Sai, Kamal, Gshuk, Jai, Reza, Cal, Waie, Zul, Shah, Zamri, Sham, Amin, Yus, Zack, Pai, Amir, Harun, Nina, Syimah, Dilah, Q, Anis, Mashi, Amal Jasmine, Vivey, Deekay, Dina, Yunyun, Hainah, Ecah, Nanoe, Babat, Umu, shasha and to the rest who I haven't mentioned; You're all the greatest. Thank you for all the sweet memories, and I wish you all the very best in your future undertakings.

A Series of Unfortunate Events

I've been having another rough day. Last night was supposed to be an innocent flat tire incident at the Mabohai highway by the Legislative Council. What was supposed to be a quick and simple task became a major 2 hour disaster. My car was like falling apart. Now I have this huge hole in my trunk (you could literally see the road gravel through it). I just don't know how to describe it, really. Let's just say that I really need a new car, badly.

Today I had to change the darn tire with a new one from the nearby tire shop, and its been a really hot day. I could really use a shower right now. Hmmph. I just wanna get this car up and running again. Who knows what's gonna happen next. Well now I've to think about how to get the bloody hole in my trunk fixed. This has been indeed a series of unfortunate events.

Ultraportable Alternatives

Ultraportable laptops are indeed a trend these days. If you're thinking small thin laptops, the first thing in your mind would probably be the MacBook Air. But the Air is outrageously expensive for an ultraportable. Yes its the world's thinnest notebook, but there are other alternatives available on the market if you're not a Mac fan.

But buying decisions could be a struggle when choosing between low-cost and better-performing models. The cheap and basic ultraportable Kohjinsha series and Asus Eee PC have limited processing power and storage, simply good enough to surf the internet and edit Word documents. The expensive ultraportables, like Lenovo's IdeaPad U110 and Fujitsu's P8010, pack processing power, storage and memory.

Fujitsu LifeBook P8010

The Fujitsu LifeBook P8010 weighs at 2.9-pounds (1.3-kilogram) and is the first to adapt Intel's low-power Core 2 Duo SL7100 LV chip running at 1.2GHz, which was shrunk 60 percent from Intel's original Core 2 Duo design. The chip consumes less power which gives this laptop a longer battery life, running for about six hours while using a wireless 802.11n network connection. The performance of built-in Intel graphics is also pretty decent.

The LifeBook P8010 comes with an OS choice of Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista Business. The performance is impressive; it boots in less than a minute, and programs load quickly. The laptop comes with a 12.1-inch screen and supports up to 2G bytes of RAM and up to 200G bytes of hard drive storage, but solid-state drive storage will also be available in the future.

It also has a DVD-RW drive and a built-in 1.3-megapixel Webcam. It supports TPM (Trusted Platform Module), a hardware-based authentication technology for system security. Overall, the P8010 is light and easy to carry, and delivers battery life and performance that can keep it working for hours on the road.

Lenovo IdeaPad U110

Available in red and black, The Lenovo IdeaPad U110 costs slightly more than Fujitsu's LifeBook P8010, but it packs a faster Intel processor and has multimedia features that contribute to its appealing glossy design. The laptop comes with a dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at 1.6GHz and includes the Vista Home Premium OS. It weighs 2.4 pounds (1.08 kilograms) and comes with an 11.1-inch screen.

The IdeaPad U110 comes with multiple batteries that gives the laptop an impressive eight-hour run time. Inside, the computer integrates Intel graphics, a 120G-byte hard drive and 2G bytes of memory, which is upgradeable to 3G bytes. The laptop also comes with VeriFace face recognition technology, where a built-in camera recognizes a face to log a person into the computer.

Maslow's Heirarchy of Human Needs

Abraham Harold Maslow (1908–1970) was an American psychologist best known for his conceptualization of the theory "The Hierarchy of Human Needs". He is considered the father of humanistic psychology. Maslow asserted that workers have five basic needs which can be ranked in order of ascending importance.

Maslow's Heirarchy of Needs is depicted as a pyramid consisting of five levels: the four lower levels are grouped together as being associated with physiological needs, while the top level is termed growth needs associated with psychological needs.

According to Maslow, as each need is satisfied, a higher need emerges. When all the other needs have been met, employees will become motivated by self-actualisation. In other words, they will look for meaning and personal growth in their work, and will actively seek new responsibilities. Some meet their self-actualisation needs by producing work of high quality while others develop creative ideas.

Maslow's theory assumes that a satisfied need is not a motivator. It is assumed that people only act to satisfy deprived needs. His theory also assumes that the five need stages follow strictly ordered heirarchy and a need will be motivated if the one below it has been satisfied.

So Far So Good

I've managed to get through the Economics test today. It's not at all that bad. I didn't memorize anything yesterday, but thankfully I've read through the articles given, and extend my research on the internet in the evening. The extended research helps a lot.

Funny was, the articles were not included in the test papers, so we were entirely on our own. Its too bad for those who depend heavily on those articles, because I didn't need them at all. By understanding the whole story, it should be easier to answer on my own, so why memorize word by word?

Then again, there's not much to answer in today's test. It was just plain simple. The next test is on Wednesday, which is Business Statistics, followed by Business Accounting the next day. Now those, I have to memorize!

I'm kinda broke today... :(

Grand Theft Auto IV

One of the most anticipated video games of the year is now available at our local video game stores, available for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. I really loved the GTA series. Too bad I won't be able to play GTA IV since I haven't gotten myself one of those next-gen consoles in my living room... yet. Sigh ~

"Gotta get one of 'em iPods. Sucks listening to wind all the time."
