Ubuntu Failed Me

From my previous outing in Tutong, I've managed to get a copy of the Ubuntu installer software CD from Ejam which I've requested him to download many weeks ago. I was so excited to know that he actually downloaded it and made a copy for me.

For those who have no idea what the hell I'm talkin about, Ubuntu is an open-source linux-based applications software, much like your Windows (or Leopard for macs) operating system. The latest release of Ubuntu 8.04 includes all the essential features you'll need in an applications software. I thought it would be cool to have a Linux programme in my computer to keep me occupied from craving for an iMac for the time being.

So I've decided to install it on my computer yesterday afternoon. Prior to getting into the installation menu, I was so excited to see the Ubuntu logo appeared on the screen.

Unfortunately...


Bummer

Actually I have no idea what that means, but I guess it's a sign telling me that it's either time for an upgrade or get a new computer. Sigh~ And I thought I'd be using Ubuntu right now and enjoy all the great features on my laptop.

Okay, now it gets interesting. Not 30 seconds after that bloody error message appeared, this disturbing image popped out on my screen...


WTF!

Thank god I have a reliable anti-virus software at my disposal. To Ejam, please let me know why I could not install Ubuntu on my laptop. Need your help ASAP. Hmmm... Haven't I seen this kid somewhere before?

Free Wallpaper

Do-It-Yourself Trail Shot

So you wanna capture your own trail shots and use them as your own custom wallpaper? Well you can actually. Here are some tips on how to capture the amazing trail shots as the one shown above. Just follow these simple steps.

Requirements:
3 cans of gasoline
1 bottle of mineral water
1 lighter
1 digital camera (a camera phone should work fine as well)
1 pack of marshmallows

Instructions:
First, open the cap and start pouring the cans of gasoline onto your desired roadway. Depending on how long you want your trail to go, you might need more cans of gasoline in stock. If you're going for the highway, you might as well get a few barrels.

A word of caution!

Watch out for ongoing traffic! Make sure to look both ways before crossing the street... dumbass!

After the whole pouring process is done, you'll stink of gasoline all over yourself, so don't grab that lighter until you wash your hands (See, I told you that water bottle would come in handy).

Seriously, you don't wanna end up like this guy.

After wiping yourself dry, start flicking your lighter onto the trail where you poured the liquid. Once you light up the road, aim your camera and press the shutter release.

CLICK!

Congratulations! You've just successfully captured your very own DIY trail shot! Easy kan? Now get your ass outta there quick before the cops smell your dirty work! (forget the marshmallows!)

Fun With Silhouettes

When the sun sets, it makes a great setting for silhouettes, especially when you have your subjects standing directly in front of the source of light (the sun), preferably at the beach. Eventually, I got these amazing results from my previous shoot.

I wish to thank Anis, Shidah and Yazmyn who volunteered for this photoshoot and helped made this project a success. Those girls are fantabulous! I highly recommend they sign up for a modeling agency.

I'm back at Ong Sum Ping Health Centre. What a great weekend, despite the fact that I never got out of the country at all. Well, gotta get back to work, I've got surveys to conduct. Only 11 more days to go...

Yet another successful portraiture, and for the first time, I've found a male candidate. Thank you so much Razi for being my first male model. You've made my job a lot easier. I need more photogenic male models like this guy, seriously.

A Friendly Note To Uninvited Guests

My mom just left for Shenzhen yesterday morning and she left us a note on the fridge in our kitchen. I find the top part pretty amusing. It's in response to the incident on the 2oth of February 2008.

Clearing Off Cigarette Butts From The Streets

It's the 1st of June already. As imposed by the Ministry of Health, we are now prohibited to smoke in all public places. Every premises will be banned from smokers, especially restaurants and cafes, where smokers have been proned to hang out there. We can't even smoke in our own cars now. So where does that leave us? Well, in the privacy of our own home, of course.

It's really a surprising move by the authorities, but I wanna look at it at the positive side. This might be an opportunity for me to reduce the number of cigarette consumption as I tend to smoke whenever everyone else around me smokes. Yes I'm a smoker, but that doesn't mean that I wanna stay a smoker for the rest of my life. I am fully aware of the dangers of it in the long run. If this move is effective enough to encourage me to full abstinence, I'd be happy to accept that.

In addition, this move is a great step in reducing, if not eliminating, the number of child and teenage smokers below 18. Patrons will now be asked for identification cards from the attendants on the counter should they wish to purchase a pack of cigarettes. By barricading access to young smokers to purchase cigarettes with their pocket money, this will encourage the youngsters to realize that they're not legal to smoke at their age.

On the downside, its really tough for every smokers to swallow, and most restaurant and cafe owners will feel the pinch because smokers bring money to them.

Let's face it. At least I get better ventilation indoors from now on.

Saturday Outing In Tutong

I'm sure everyone's been having so much fun this weekend since its a public holiday yesterday. I read the morning papers and it seemed that most families headed across the borders (its pay day, apalagi?). Marriz wanted to go outing so he picked me up and we made plans to head over to Tutong to pay a visit to our dear old friend Ejam, as I had suggested earlier. Before that, we had our lunch next to CarQuest as Marriz needed his car headlights fixed.

We then made a non-stop trip to Tutong and reached Ejam's house. We intended to crash his place without notifying him on the phone. It's more like a surprise visit. Turns out Ejam's available alright, though he wasn't really, how do you say, formally dressed when he showed up at the front door, and I was armed with my camera, shooting him hesitantly.


That's a really nice pair of military boxers. Too bad you all can't see it. LOL!

Of course, he wasn't very pleased about that so he gave us the finger...


So anyway, we got to chill in his crib for a while as I had to update my blog. At the same time, we got to welcome a very special person to the world, and that person was Ejam's new baby sister, who's only a few months old.


We decided to take Ejam along and headed over to the most beautiful and popular beach in Tutong. Anis was also there to join us for the outing. She just got back from ICC for the Job Fair, in which she represented the Standard Chartered booth. It's really been awhile since I saw those two together. It was their 4 year anniversary 3 months ago, and they still looked sweet together. So I took several shots of the couple, considered it as my anniversary gift to Ejam & Anis. Congratulations to both of them. 4 years is indeed a long time.






























So there you have it. Tutong was fun, especially with Ejam & Anis around. I'm definitely coming back for another Tutong outing. In the meantime, I wish the couple a happy 4 year (+ 3 months) anniversary.
