Solemnisation: Bahrum Ali

Wishing a big congratulations to my colleague and friend Bahrum for his solemnisation yesterday. And thanks for hiring me. It's been a while that I haven't done any wedding photoshoots. Furthermore, these were the final shots taken with my Nikon D80.

Brunei representatives off to Commonwealth Youth Forum

Brunei youth representatives of the Seventh Commonwealth Youth Forum in the Carribean, Ak Kamal Ghadafi (L) and Abdul Qawiy prior to their departure at the Brunei International Airport.

TWO youths will be representing Brunei at the Seventh Commonwealth Youth Forum (CYF) in the Caribbean in an eight-day forum organised jointly by the Commonwealth Youth Exchange and Commonwealth Youth Programme this coming November 21 to 27.

The Brunei Times had the opportunity to meet the representatives — youth activist Ak Kamal Ghadafi Pg Hj Suhaimi from the Department of Youth and Sports and UBD undergraduate Abdul Qawiy Hj Abdul Khani — prior to their departure via Singapore and New York to their destination.

"This year's forum will be special as it will be the first time that all 53 youth representatives of Commonwealth will be attending. We will also have the opportunity to meet up with the Heads of Government to discuss youth matters," said Ak Kamal Ghadafi.

The objectives of the event are aimed at the development of young people's understanding of the Commonwealth and its values; the creation of a platform for young people to contribute to Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) agendas; and the promotion of networking and interchange between young people and their organisations.

"This isn't merely attending the meeting. We'll be very involved in the discussions. Knowing Commonwealth, there is no such thing as sitting down and listening to the talks," said the youth activist.

"The final communiqué from the forum will be circulated at CHOGM and presented to the Commonwealth Secretariat, thereby giving the young people of the Commonwealth a chance to have their opinions heard by the Heads of State," he added.

The theme for this year's forum is "Invest in Youth, Sustain the World". Various topics will be discussed during the forum such as peace-building, economic issues and climate change.

Ak Kamal Ghadafi said youths could benefit greatly from participating in the forum and on his part, he hopes that he would be able to apply the input, ideas and experience he acquires from the Commonwealth youth participants at the forum to Brunei.

The eight-day forum will be held separately in three areas in the Caribbean; the island of Tobago, on board a cruise ship Queen Mary, and finally in Trinidad.

Wet, Wet, Wet

The dreadful heavy rain continues to fall in our fair land as we entered the month of February. It sucks, really, especially if your room suffers from constant power trips every time the lightning strikes outside (this is why i've got pending work). But I do feel bad about my other friends who suffer even worse cases such as floods and landslides. Some managed to document the everyday situation of constant flooding in their houses and they had to deal with it, which totally affects work, school and other important things. And I thought the long power outage we faced a couple of weeks back was bad.

It's really depressing to expect heavy showers and thunderstorms in every evening in every single day. The rain clouds just kept rolling in after dusk and cleared up the next morning, only to return again at the end of the day. Throughout the week I didn't go out much at night as I used to. I surely do not want to take the risk of being stranded anywhere under heavy rain, what with the constant flooding on some roads. It's been a while since I had a good evening chill-out with my friends somewhere.

Regardless, I still continued my pursuit in keeping fit. I'm still putting on my running shoes. Knowing that the rain is always expected in the late afternoon, the best times to run is in the wee hours of the morning, though I still run even if the rain has not ceased. Sometimes running in the rain can be as refreshing as running in a breezy late afternoon.

Guess What Movie This Is From

Her name's Sabrina, also known to her friends and on the internet as Sabby Wabby. She's an aspiring young photographer and blogger, as well as a member of the Brunei Forever elite. Being young doesn't stop her from joining us in our photo-shoot outing, particularly in the recent Chinese New Year morning outing on the 26th. Such full of youth made into good use, and I've got 4 more wild and crazy years before I hit 30. Sigh... uhhh, anyway, do visit her blog and say hi to her.

And no, this is not from a movie. It's something I've been experimenting on; turning images I shot into cinematics. Kinda look like straight out of an indon chick flick eh? Well if I had you all convinced in the first place, then my experiment is a success. *LOL*

Spot My Ad

If you happen to be at The Mall anytime soon, do check out R.Z.I.A, a small bakery corner at the upper Basement of Utama Grand Superstore. They catered the wedding cupcakes for the previous wedding assignment I covered earlier this month.

The Night Pre-Wed

Special thanks to Zadm for inviting me to tag along with him on his pre-wedding photo-shoot for his clients last night. It was an opportunity to be able to volunteer, observe and participate in his project in order for me to learn more about photo-shooting pre-weds. Last night was even more of a challenge as his clients requested it to be done at night in Jerudong Park from the playground all the way to the garden with the colorful fountain.

After last night's experience, I find pre-wed photo-shoot quite a chore, what with all the gears and equipment that needed to be carried around from one point to another in order to achieve a perfect lighting setup, but the satisfaction was indeed there after hours of photo-shoot, and I learned a lot from this tag-along with Zadm, a young local wedding photographer of 2 years experience in the field. I'm still new at this, and there's still so much more to learn...
